Feeling Unwell
If your child feels unwell, they should ask their teacher for permission to report to the Medical Room. There is a member of staff there that can help them. Parents are asked at the start of each year to sign a medical form, which gives permission for our medical staff to administer pain medication. Please make sure you sign this or indicate if your child has any medical allergies, as this is recorded on our database. The Medical Room will only administer pain medication from 10.30am until 2.00pm.
Medicines
If your child requires medication during the day this must be handed in to the medical room with the appropriate medical form completed by a parent/carer. This will be stored in a locked cupboard. Please do not allow your child to self-medicate or carry any medicines with them.
Medical Information
It is essential that the Academy is kept informed of any serious or recurring medical conditions and the implications of how this could impact on your child's education. Information of this nature is treated confidentially.
Vaccinations
Full information on the vaccination program for the HPV cervical caner virus will be sent to parents when dates are confirmed.
Students with Disabilities
If your child has a disability he/she will be treated no less favourably than other applications for admission. Our Academy aims to be fully inclusive. We hope to make all our students welcome and feel happy to look forward to their school day. Every child is different and we view differences as an opportunity for adults and children alike to learn more about ourselves.
We make reasonable adjustments to ensure that students with disabilities are not placed at a substantial disadvantage. For further information please refer to the policies section.
Our aim is for an effective partnership working between home and the Academy. To help us with that we anticipate that parents will want to:
- Inform the Academy at the earliest opportunity if their child has a disability and the exact nature of it;
- Provide information that the Academy needs to plan effectively for the child to be a full member of the Academy community.
- Acknowledge that when deciding whether an adjustment is reasonable, one of the factors the Executive Principal must consider is the effect of the proposed change on all members of the Academy community.
- Recognise the importance of the Academy and home working in partnership.
Child Protection
The Academy has a responsibility to safeguard and protect the welfare of students. All staff at the Academy have an obligation to report any signs of obvious or suspected cases of child abuse. This includes non-accidental injuries, physical neglect, emotional disturbance and/or sexual abuse. The procedures that are in place are for the protection of children at risk and there may be instances when a case is reported that later proves to be unfounded. The Academy recognises that this is a difficult and delicate subject that may be upsetting but the Academy must always put the welfare of students first.
